WE REFER to Mr Lim Kay Huat's letter, 'Home in Punggol, parking lot in Sg Kadut' (April 3). Under the Vehicle Parking Certificate scheme, heavy vehicle owners must show proof of an overnight parking lot. In Mr Lim's case, the heavy vehicle has a designated overnight parking lot at a private yard in Sungei Kadut St 1.
As his employer has committed to park the heavy vehicle at Sungei Kadut, Mr Lim must continue to leave the heavy vehicle there overnight until he or his employer is able to secure an alternative place to park, for example, at Anchorvale Crescent. His employer could make alternative transport arrangements for him to commute home after work if he has to work late.
Punggol is planned as a new residential town and we avoid bringing into it the nuisance, and safety and traffic concerns that are likely to arise from heavy vehicle movements through the residential areas. As Punggol continues to grow, these environmental concerns will become even more apparent and affect a larger number of residents. There is, therefore, no plan to build a heavy vehicle park in Punggol.
Mr Lim is on the waiting list for URA's heavy vehicle park at Anchorvale Crescent, which has 298 lots but all the available season parking tickets have been sold out.
If Mr Lim needs to secure a parking lot nearer to his home early, he may wish to apply for a season parking ticket at URA's heavy vehicle park at the junction of Tampines Road/Hougang Ave 7. The waiting list is much shorter and he should be able to secure a space there within one to two months.
