THE recent accident in Malaysia leaving a dear little child without her family is a tragedy.
However, I do have one question that has not been addressed, and that is the question of seat belts. Was the family in this car wearing them?
The Straits Times had an expert discuss how fast the car must have been going, and how a crash into a tree turns out, yet it seemed to neglect the question of seat belts.
I see at least two cars every day with young children not wearing seat belts, regardless of what their parents or carers are doing. (The adults, it seems, wear their own seat belts.)
This seems to be the norm in Singapore. I am baffled as to why such a simple thing that can save so many lives is ignored here.
Surely, one should also suggest the likely outcome if the occupants of the car had worn seat belts.
