MADAM Tan Gek Kim noted on Saturday that the Public Service Commission (PSC) representative who visited Cornell University did not meet non-scholars from Singapore ('Govt gestures mean a lot to S'poreans abroad') and suggested we should.
We agree with Madam Tan that we should. Indeed, today, when PSC conducts regular visits overseas to meet the admissions office of top universities and our scholars, we make it a point to meet other Singaporean students in these universities. The students are provided with information on civil service careers and internship opportunities, as well as information on PSC mid-term scholarships and master's scholarships.
We may not have been able to reach out to all Singaporeans who are non-scholars studying in the universities we visit. If readers have any suggestions to improve our outreach to non-scholars, we will be happy to receive them. Details of our overseas visits are posted on the PSC website (www.pscscholarships.gov.sg). We welcome Singapore students who are interested in meeting the PSC representatives to sign up via the website.
