THERE is a significant disparity between season parking fees in multi-storey or sheltered carparks and traditional unsheltered carparks.
Sheltered carparks cost $90 a month, compared with $65 for surface lots. The fee difference is almost 30 per cent.
Season carpark users like me do not mind surface lots, given such sizeable savings. But there is no choice now and the Housing Board should give us one.
If a surface carpark is not possible, can the HDB consider cheaper rates for users who park in the upper, unsheltered top levels of multi-storey carparks?
After all, this upper tier shares the same key characteristic of ground-floor surface lots - both are unsheltered. But, the upper floor is more tedious as motorists must walk up and down stairs or take the lift.
So, a two-tier pricing formula is fairer, more affordable and offers drivers the option of parking in sheltered or unsheltered lots.
