Case, small claims court better placed to solve travel issues
I WOULD like to thank Ms Seet Gek Neo and Ms Michelle Lim for their letters, 'Vacation ruined by Mandarin-only guide,' and 'No tour gift but ad says otherwise' (Feb 28).

As a trade association, we usually redirect such concerns to the travel agencies involved as these are issues that can often be resolved at agency level.

If they cannot resolve the issues, the letter writers can approach the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) or Small Claims Tribunal, which are better placed to resolve them.

Ms Seet also says she wrote to warn vacationers to pay extra attention when booking their holidays in view of the then upcoming Natas Fair.

As the main organiser of this fair which is held twice a year, our aim is to bring together outbound travel agents, national tourist organisations, airlines, hotels, car rental companies and travel-related services for consumers to shop with ease.

The association agrees to a certain extent that consumers should be protected. But consumers must exercise sound judgment when making any form of purchase, be it at travel fairs or elsewhere.
