Spoken language more important
|
|
MY EXPERIENCE of working in China suggests that it is hard to understand the Chinese characters because of the emphasis on hanyu pinyin in school. But it is more important to speak Mandarin effectively. Being able to do so is more than half the battle won. The spoken language, rather than the written, should be stressed in teaching Chinese.
