I AM disappointed to read that Singapore Airlines views the slapping of an SIA stewardess by a high-profile Singaporean woman as 'a personal matter' when the alleged incident occurred while the stewardess was performing her duty, serving passengers. It is never 'a personal matter' when an employee is assaulted on duty. All employers, big or small, have a duty of care to ensure the safety and well-being of their staff.
When journalists, bus drivers and hospital staff were attacked while carrying out their duty, their management has rightly stood by and protected its staff, some even covering their legal fees. SIA's view that it is 'a personal matter' shows a lack of support and care for its employees.
