ON MONDAY, I took five of my company's Chinese foreign workers to POSB in Geylang to open a savings account.
At first, the staff told me the bank could open only three savings accounts for workers from the same company in one day.
Later, customer service officer Chia Foong Kin said the foreign workers could open accounts only if the company had an account or other banking facility with POSB.
I asked Ms Chia to show me this instruction in print, which she did.
I would like to ask POSB why it does not allow foreign workers to open a bank account even though they contribute to Singapore's economic success.
And what is the rationale behind insisting on the company having business with the bank in order to open personal savings accounts for its workers?
What does the Monetary Authority of Singapore have to say on discrimination against foreign workers.
