SINGAPORE plans for a 6.5 million population in the next few decades. The problem is limited land resource.
The Government's objective is to stay competitive globally, and give Singaporeans a quality lifestyle. Increasing the population is one way. Is there another way to reach this objective?
Singapore's best resource is its management skills at government level. How about actuating that resource to achieve this objective?
Young citizens are required to work to enhance the wealth of the nation. Can we generate this wealth in a land where such workforce is available in abundance at affordable cost? In a way, this is outsourcing people in other countries with their land under Singapore management. This may be parallel to the 99-year lease of Hong Kong by the British.
For example, India is highly populated and has land in abundance. It is building free trade zones. If Singapore leased the
Andaman Islands from India and launched wealth-generating schemes, it would be symbiotic for both India and Singapore.
