Maid replaced but forced to take insurance again
I GOT a new maid two weeks ago from a maid agency. From Jan 1, employers must pay maid insurance which ranges from $192 to almost $300. Before Jan 1, employers did not need to pay this as it was included in the agency fee.

I took an insurance package which cost $242. After a week with my new maid, I found she was not suitable to my needs and the agency agreed to a free replacement. However, I had to pay again for a new maid's insurance.

I understand insurance is necessary but if we find our maid is not suitable, will we just keep her causing more problems, just to save the insurance fee? In the end, the insurance company benefits and the poor employer just keeps paying.

I hope the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) can work something out with the insurance companies and maid agencies since employers pay a monthly foreign domestic worker levy to MOM.
