AYE gantry won't ease congested exit
I WOULD like to comment on the setting up of an electronic road pricing (ERP) gantry along Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Normanton Park, towards Jurong.

I take this road every day and those who travel along this stretch of road every morning will know that the slow-moving traffic is due to the bottleneck at the Buona Vista exit.

This exit leads to the Science Park, the Ayer Rajah Industrial Park, the National University Hospital and the National University of Singapore.

Once we pass this exit, we are able to achieve highway cruising speed in the direction of Jurong.

The two lanes at this Buona Vista exit are not sufficient to cope with the large volume of vehicles.

In addition, the entrance to AYE from the new highway from Queensway is just a few hundred metres from this exit. The distance between this entrance and the exit is too short for cars to enter AYE and exit to Buona Vista.

The Land Transport Authority should look into ways to reduce the bottleneck problem at this exit, rather than set up the ERP gantry.

The problem will not improve even with the ERP gantry.
