SCDF should protect informants' particulars
RECENTLY, I gave feedback to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on tentage causing obstruction to two walkways leading to the area bounded by blocks 152A, 152B and 154, Serangoon North Avenue 1, and compromising safety. The tentage was used for conducting festive business.

On Monday, I discovered that my name and telephone number had been revealed to the tentage contractor. I was disappointed that SCDF had compromised the confidentiality of my particulars by revealing my name and telephone number to the managing agent of Aljunied Town Council, who is just another contractor. The managing agent in turn revealed my particulars to the tentage contractor, who called me on my telephone.

SCDF should be sensitive to the fact that disclosure of informants' personal particulars could put the safety of an informant and that of his family at risk. Such malpractice could deter people from giving feedback.
