Cisco gets some latitude on parking of vehicles
I REFER to Mr Yeo Huat Chye's letter, 'Certis Cisco vehicles exempt from parking law?' (ST, Jan 12).

Certis Cisco is entrusted by our customers to provide security for their assets and cash. For security reasons, our vehicles need to be parked nearest to where our services are required, e.g., bank automated teller machines.

Due to the nature of our work, we have an arrangement with the Traffic Police to allow our vehicles to be parked temporarily in no-parking zones other than roads with zigzag lines, provided that our officers take precautions, such as flashing warning lights, placing safety cones and providing marshals to direct traffic away from the vehicles.

In the event that traffic rules are flouted, Certis Cisco vehicles are not exempt from the law and will be booked accordingly.

The vehicles mentioned by Mr Yeo were parked in those locations for the reason cited above and the drivers had taken the necessary precautions.

We thank Mr Yeo for sharing his concerns and giving us the opportunity to clarify.
