Dedicated parcel counter doubles as postal counter
I REFER to Ms Cindy Tan Hui Cheng's letter, 'Too much non-post business in post offices' (ST, Jan 9), and Mr N. Nageswaran's letter, 'One-stop service at post offices a boon' (ST, Jan 17).

We are pleased to note that Mr Nageswaran appreciates the one-stop service that SingPost provides at our conveniently-located post offices.

We assure Ms Tan and all our customers that as Singapore's public postal licensee, SingPost is fully committed to meeting their postal needs. To this end, every post office is equipped with a dedicated parcel counter which also doubles as a postal counter for transactions such as the collection of registered articles and the purchase of stamps.

We apologise for the inconvenience Ms Tan experienced while transacting at our post office at Serangoon Central. We have noted her views and thank her for the suggestion to have dedicated queues for postal transactions.

At larger post offices where space permits, we have dedicated queues to serve customers with postal needs, as spelt out above. For smaller post offices such as the one that Ms Tan visited, we will implement more innovative measures to address the concerns raised.

We are pleased to inform Ms Tan that additional resources will be deployed during peak periods to cater to the increased patronage and to reduce the queuing time. In the longer term, we will increase our post-office network to enhance convenience and accessibility and better serve our customers.

Concurrently, we have been promoting the use of our 250 Self-service Automated Machines (SAMs) and SAMPlus, as well as vPost, our Internet portal for customers with bill payments and purchases. Special promotions with attractive prizes are on-going to encourage customers to use our SAMs and vPost.

We thank Ms Tan and Mr Nageswaran for their feedback and support and undertake to make their experience at our post offices not just a pleasant one but one which they will look forward to.
