I LIKE what I read in Saturday's inspiring report on national football coach Raddy Avramovic's constructive approach to the recent Noh Alam Shah issue ('Alam Shah set for World Cup qualifiers'; ST, Jan 5).
Avramovic's three conditions to Alam Shah were sensible indeed, allowing the talented but impulsive striker another chance to rejoin the squad and play for Singapore. What could be more constructive than for Alam Shah, Daniel Bennett and Avramovic to sit down together, bare their souls and move on from that unpleasant episode? Bennett must be magnanimous enough to forgive and forget. Alam Shah must turn over a new leaf.
Singapore is fortunate to have a coach like Avramovic. He is a no-nonsense disciplinarian and not one to hog the limelight. But he is one sturdy, self-motivated and dedicated coach.
Avramovic earns my respect. We have much to learn from this man of character and passion.
