Poly stint will help teachers guide students
I REFER to the latest moves by the Ministry of Education on the professional development of teachers. I applaud the enhancement of various lucrative packages offered to teachers.

Of those students eligible for post-secondary education, most proceed to polytechnic, but most teachers have not had a stint in polytechnic. This imbalance should be addressed so teachers can provide useful advice to graduating secondary students on their choices in post-secondary education.

This does not mean an increase in the number of teachers who graduate from polytechnic.

I suggest expanding teachers' professional development packages to specialist courses offered by polytechnics and even the Institute of Technical Education.

With a study stint in polytechnic, either part time or full time, teachers could act as future ambassadors of polytechnics to their schools.

In this way, students will look forward to discussing their post-secondary education options with their teachers as they know the teachers have experienced it.

I hope the ministry will consider extending its packages to include my suggestion.
