Guard at POSB sent maid to back of queue
ON WEDNESDAY, my wife was at POSB Hougang with our maid to open a bank account. The maid stood in the queue while my wife stepped out to run an errand. While she was away, the Certis Cisco guard asked the maid why she was in the queue and, as my wife was not present, he insisted she move to the back of the queue. This was after she had been standing in the queue for half an hour.

I understand that on the first few days of the month the queue can be quite long. But whatever rationale the guard used to help the banking process, is clearly wrong. Why does my wife's presence make a difference to our maid's queue position? I shudder to think what happens to foreign workers and maids who accompany senior citizens. It will be a wonder if they can get any banking done at all.

Perhaps POSB and Cisco believe citizens, residents and foreign workers should be in different queues. If this is so, I am sure POSB account holders will appreciate prominent signs to indicate this!
