Telco couldn't handle holiday mobile surge
FROM 10.45pm on New Year's Eve at Clarke Quay, many SingTel Mobile subscribers were unable to receive network coverage. Neither text messages nor mobile calls could be made or received. Only after 12.30am could intermittent messages and calls be made and received.

At 1.30am after I reached home, I called SingTel's hotline on a fixed line to find out what the problem was. The officer on duty told me it was probably due to poor network coverage at Clarke Quay.

I was told I was the only one who had complained. However, while at Clarke Quay, I had checked and tried many of my friends' mobile phones and found the same problem. So before 1.30am, either affected subscribers at Clarke Quay could not call to complain for lack of network coverage or complaints were made later the same day.
