Pioneer counsellor's invaluable lesson
I REFER to the interview of pioneer counsellor Anthony Yeo ('How often do families share how they feel about each other?'; ST, Nov 7). It was so educative, and enlightening, to read about Mr Yeo, and his yeoman service to society.

His thoughts and ideas are greatly required in today's society, where fractured relationships are leading to innumerable problems, at home and outside.

Most people are so busy trying to stay in the rat race that they lose track of all the other things that are more important in life, like family, friendships and relationships.

Making money is definitely important but it is equally important to know when to stop, where and how, and to focus on the emotional bank, where investments like love, care, compassion, respect and thoughtfulness bring very rich dividends.

Making a living is not the same as making a life, and the giving of love is an education in itself and it is only when relationships are nurtured with constant care, love and devotion that fulfilment is experienced.

Mr Yeo rightly counsels engaging in chit-chat instead of exchanging notes. Today bonding is conducted via the occasional e-mail when innumerable people hunger for a phone call or a chat.

Giving of yourself and your time is the lesson Mr Yeo is teaching, and it is persons like him who guide, motivate and inspire others towards personal peace and fulfilment, which is the biggest achievement in life.
