NATIONAL DAY PARADE AT MARINA BAY
Recycling, anti-littering measures in place
WE REFER to the letter, 'Let not NDP 'waste' go to waste' (ST, Aug 4), by Ms Yvonne Lim Boon Ya.

The National Day Parade (NDP) 2007 Executive Committee and the National Environment Agency have been working closely together on a waste-management plan that incorporates recycling.

SembCorp Environmental Management (SembEnviro), an established waste collection and recycling company, has been appointed to collect all waste, both recyclable and non-recyclable, generated from NDP 2007.

SembEnviro has placed recycling bins and trash bins all around the Marina Bay area to enable NDP participants and spectators to put recyclable waste into recycling bins and trash into trash bins. It will send the recyclables collected to its facility for sorting and recycling.

In addition, we are holding a 'Bag It to Win It' contest to encourage spectators and participants to dispose of their litter properly while celebrating Singapore's birthday. This is to encourage those who attend the parade to take ownership of our environment by not littering.

Several announcements will be made before the start of the parade to inform and to remind spectators of these recycling and anti-littering initiatives.

We hope that everyone attending NDP 2007 will have an enjoyable and memorable evening at Marina Bay.
