Why some HDB blocks are vacant
I REFER to the letter, 'Why are some HDB blocks vacant?' (ST, Aug 1), by Mr Lau Kim Hup.

HDB currently leases out about 1,600 flats through appointed managing agents. These are old rental flats which are no longer required for rental under our Public Rental Scheme and those that have remained unsold despite being offered repeatedly for sale to public applicants.

Block 112, Bukit Merah View, comprises rental units that were previously used for housing foreign contract staff. Now vacated, these flats form part of the pool of units for leasing through managing agents.
