I AM pleased that the Public Transport Council is raising the service standards for buses, including reducing the waiting time for buses to 10 minutes during peak hours.
However, the waiting time for buses during off-peak hours should also be reduced.
For example, I usually have to wait about 20 minutes for bus No. 95 to take me from the NUS campus to Buona Vista MRT station during off-peak hours, even though there are always plenty of commuters.
I have also had to wait as long as 25 minutes for bus No. 56, from Toa Payoh Central to Bishan, in the evening.
Bus operators should strive to serve the needs of commuters better, even while paying attention to the bottom line.
Improvements have to be made to waiting times during both peak and off-peak hours.
