I REFER to Ms Ong Yian See's letter, 'Postage poser with GST hike to 7%' (ST, June 21).
All our call-centre staff were briefed on the impending GST increase and the resultant revised postage rates. We apologise that our customer service officer who attended to her was unable to provide her with the information requested. We have since refamiliarised our staff on the changes and reminded them to be more helpful and proactive in assisting our customers.
For registered articles that cost $2.74 or any odd amount, we have postage stamps of different values - e.g., the 1st and 2nd Local stamps (to cost 26 and 32 cents respectively from July 1) that can be combined with stamps of other values - to make up the exact amount for payment. For customers paying by cash at our post-office counters for transactions of any amount, the exact change will be given. For their convenience, we also offer other modes of payment, e.g., Nets and credit cards.
Besides postage stamps, our customers can use postage labels franked at post-office counters which reflect the exact amount.
