PRINT EDITION LETTERS
PROFESSOR Walter Woon's attack on human-rights activists as 'fanatics' is very disturbing (A-G cautions against human rights becoming a 'religion' with fanatics, May 31). Surprisingly (although perhaps not) it comes at a time when the Singapore Government itself is trying to promote the Asean Regional Mechanism on Human Rights.
I READ Mr Steven Tan's glowing tribute to Singapore's success and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's outstanding leadership (Celebrate unique style of democracy, June 3) with pride. Having the good fortune of being an undergraduate in the United States has only imbued me with a stronger sense of belonging and ownership of the Singaporean identity.
NATIONAL Day is approaching once again, and very soon, rehearsals will be held at the world's largest floating platform, followed by parade previews and the parade itself on Aug 9.
IT WAS only two weeks ago that petrol prices went up twice within a week by 8 cents.
I AM amazed to read the report that some GPs were still not issuing itemised bills two months after the deadline for the guideline came into effect (Some GPs yet to itemise bills, June 2). One even refused a patient an itemised bill.
MADAM Ng Yuit Poh's letter 'School too rigid to help ease traffic woes' on Monday suggested that Raffles Girls' Primary School (RGPS) work with the police and residents to effect a mutually beneficial agreement regarding the traffic situation outside the school.
WE WOULD like to thank Ms Tan Ai Li, Mr Adrian Bek, Mr Chua Chern Pin and Mr Adry Zamani for their comments and feedback on HDB's new application process (May 24 and 28).
WE WISH to clarify the letter 'Pay to donate'' by Mr James Wong last Wednesday, that outright donations, such as donations made through the Sichuan quake charity show that was aired on MediaCorp Channel 8 on May 25, are not subject to the goods and services tax (GST).
ONLINE LETTERS
THERE is a good reason why Singaporeans are renowned 'kiasus'. There is nothing to be proud of when your national team has been thrashed 3-7 at our own Lions' den.
I READ with amazement some of the responses to Dr Catherine Lim's letter on the Mas Selamat affair published on Wednesday.
AS THIS is the school holiday period, I wish to share with readers some travel tips.
IT IS still hard to get over the loss of two of the national dragonboaters in the boat tragedy in Cambodia - they are very close friends of mine.
I BOUGHT a newly-released feature-packed Samsung DVD player in June last year. But it started giving problems when I connected it to my 50-inch plasma TV.
