PRINT EDITION LETTERS
MS S. RADHA, head of corporate communications at the Ministry of Law, in her reply last Saturday ('Why voting age in Singapore is 21') to Dr Andy Ho's column last Thursday ('If old enough for NS, why not the vote?') has failed to comprehend the thrust of the argument he put forward.
HOT on the heels of accusations of Singaporeans being complacent, we are now chided for being kiam-siap (skinflints), following Ms Chua Mui Hoong's column last Friday ('A cheapskate's take on current issues').
WITH the increasing number of permanent residents (PRs) in Singapore, can the Ministry of Education (MOE) consider different categories for Singapore citizens and PRs for Primary 1 registration?
I WAS amazed at last Sunday's article, 'Seat-belt rule for school buses will take time'.
I REFER to Mr Farhan Ali's letter, 'Malay middle class, not the poor, must buck up' (April 30) and thank the writer for his feedback and timely reminder on the importance of skills upgrading to make us relevant and employable in this new economy.
RECENTLY, I was taught the realities of official graciousness by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). On April 23, in response to a request by Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for blood platelets, I went to the hospital about 11am. To my chagrin, my usual EPS (ERP Payment System) Carpark H was undergoing some work, and the other carparks were full.
THE article, 'When acquittal is bitter-sweet', last Thursday cites the remarks of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) spokesman, giving the unfortunate impression that he was commenting specifically on Mr William Ding's case. This was emphatically not so. AGC was given an excerpt from an article with a quotation from a speech made by the Attorney-General in his former capacity as a Nominated MP on Feb 28, 1996. It was in that context that the reply was given as follows:
ONLINE LETTERS
I AM one of the 13 bloggers who submitted proposals for Internet freedom to the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. I would like to respond to Monday's online letter, 'Internet freedom: Rights come with responsibilities' by Mr Mok Wing Tat in my personal capacity.
MY WIFE booked a tour package for two from Five Stars during the Natas fair in March and paid on the spot in full. However, later, due to health reasons (certified by an SGH doctor), the two of us decided to give this trip a miss.
WE REFER to Mr Leo Chin Kwang's online letter on Thursday, 'Opt out to stop junk mail from SingPost?'
WHILE there are many rogue taxi drivers, there are also many good and kind cabbies.
I WAS on my way to Sentosa with my family for Mother's Day lunch on Sunday when we had a very unpleasant encounter.
I REFER to Monday's online letter, 'What protection under private health-care insurance?' by Ms Sim Siew Chen. Ms Sim wrote that NTUC Income had imposed an exclusion for medical conditions related to her husband's right shoulder, after she applied for an IncomeShield policy on his behalf. This was based on his declaration of a shoulder injury which was subsequently operated on.
