AS SINGAPORE'S population grows, the chances of A-level students who pass well enough to qualify for a place in a local university are decreasing.
I REFER to Tuesday's Forum comments by Mr Yeo Khee Quan. As a cooperative governed by the Cooperative Societies Act, NTUC FairPrice pays 20 per cent of our surplus every year to the Singapore Labour Foundation.
I REFER to Mr Paul Jacob's article last Saturday, 'Can't treat them right? Ban maids'. It is not uncommon to read about the plight of maids.

I READ Mr Paul Jacob's article last Saturday ('Can't treat them right? Ban maids'), and couldn't agree more. It is appalling how some Singaporeans treat their maids but our general attitude towards them is just as appalling.
PUB, the national water agency, and National Environment Agency (NEA) thank Mrs Joyce Ho for her letter, 'Highlight storm drains in dengue battle' (April 30).
I REFER to your article on Saturday, 'Fare cheats to be fined $20 from July'.
I REFER to the letter, 'Rehiring policy won't work without support' by Mr Tony Xuan (April 28).
'Why does it take a civilian to point out the security threats of an illegally parked vehicle in front of the Civil Defence building and spend at least 20 minutes educating the civil defence staff about security?'
'The sums do not add up.'

THE Friday article, 'Where in the world is the West', is good reading material. Guy Sorman writes: 'To be Western or Westernised... is a mindset which does not coincide with any continent, nor with any specific religion.'
I WAS on the train on Saturday when, as usual, the announcer reminded commuters that 'eating and drinking are not allowed...' Just then, I looked up and saw two commuters drinking from water bottles, in total disregard to the announcement. The two, a man and a woman, were wearing SMRT uniforms.
EARLY last month, we received the key to our newly upgraded letter box which enables us to block out junk mail.

IN 2004, the car that my wife was in was gently bumped from behind (she was waiting at the entrance of the carpark). As it was a small knock, both parties agreed to settle via our individual insurance policies. Two interesting things happened.
I REFER to Saturday's article, 'Punch dashes gamer's career dreams'. I was surprised to find out that team manager Aaron Aw had no reserve players and was 'forced' to play in the team.
