PRINT EDITION LETTERS
YAYASAN Mendaki, the self-help group for the Malay/Muslim community, recently conducted a seminar on ways to curb the growing income gap between the Malays and the other races.
FOR the past few months, The Straits Times has reported initiatives on the planting of trees. They include land being used to plant seedlings which will be transplanted to Marina Bay in the future, as well as accepting donations from people to have young trees named after them.
I REFER to the report on Monday, 'GPs happy with liposuction rules, plastic surgeons cry foul'. The same story has been told in Argentina, Australia and the United States.
I REFER to Mr Christopher Tan's article entitled 'Puncturing inflated motor claims' (April 21). Let me share my perspective, having been involved in helping my team build the largest market share in motor insurance during my period as the chief executive officer of NTUC Income.
WE REFER to Saturday's letter, 'Base Giro plan on latest income returns'. Our staff had spoken to Madam Khoo and informed her on Monday that her Giro plan had already been cancelled last Thursday.
IT IS unfair to cite unnamed 'insurance sources' in the report 'Puncturing inflated motor claims' (April 21), who blame 'ambulance-chasing' lawyers for the rise in claims both for injury and non-injury cases.
THE National Environment Agency (NEA) has done a good job raising public awareness of the dangers and prevention of dengue. Most of the publicity material, however, stress on vigilance within our own homes. Seldom has there been mention of storm drains surrounding landed properties and shops.
ONLINE LETTERS
I REFER to Mr Clinton Lim Eng Hiong's letter, 'Tired of jammed roads? Go to work by sea instead' (April 23). While ferries have proven to be an effective means of transport in many coastal cities, there are many complex challenges in Singapore's context which would make it difficult to effectively implement a similar system here.
IN JANUARY last year, I sent my Nissan car for servicing at Tan Chong Bukit Timah. On collection, I was not given the standard discounts on the corrective repairs done.
WE THANK Mrs Helen Ng for her letter yesterday, 'Insurance upgrade confusing', and apologise to her for the the unsatisfactory service she experienced when she called. We will take her feedback into consideration to improve our future service delivery.
I AM writing in relation to some of the trailers shown by Channel 5. After the Monday night telecast of The Apprentice, I watched the trailer for the next episode and noticed, for the second week running, that it included shots of the following episode's boardroom meeting.
WE LIVE on the 10th storey of Blk 416 Hougang Ave 10. On April 23 at about 9am, when my wife opened the door of our flat, we were shocked to see a rat rush in from the common area outside and proceed to our balcony. My wife immediately closed the balcony doors to ensure that the rat could not escape. I then called the Aljunied Town Council to report the incident.
WE REFER to the online letter by Mr Chin Kee Thou, 'Bank ads project wrong image" (April 22). We would like to thank Mr Chin for his feedback and would like to assure him that it is not the bank's intention, through this ad, to encourage the audience to indulge in any violent act. Nonetheless, we appreciate the feedback and would like to apologise to members of the public who may have taken offence to the ad.
