YOUR editorial yesterday, 'Were failings systemic?' questioned whether the breach of security at Whitley Road Detention Centre (WRDC) is a 'systemic contagion or the personal failing of only certain staff', and 'the appropriate level of culpability (that) should be drawn'.
I REFER to Mr Ng Cher Hwa's letter last Friday, 'Allow tax relief for medical expenses'.
HAS the National Environment Agency overlooked an important area in the fight against dengue haemorraghic fever? Last Saturday, my family and I visited the Chinese Cemetery at Choa Chu Kang during Qing Ming. When we arrived, we were greeted by swarms of mosquitoes which found perfect breeding places in water-filled joss stick urns, milk cans, broken bottles, soft drink paper packets, plastic bags, plates and even cockle shells, which were left behind by others.

I COULD not help but feel the patriotism of Chinese citizens here in China as many marched in protest against recent foreign intervention in events leading up to the Beijing Olympics.
DESPITE spending billions of yuan, the Chinese Government has not won over the Tibetans. What went wrong?
THE police wish to thank Mr Tang Mun Keong for his feedback 'Make it easier to park during Qing Ming' (April 8).
WE REFER to Monday's letter, 'Nightspot's posters send wrong signals' by Mr Adrian Yap, which relates to posters found in Dragonfly at St James Power Station with the tagline 'Please drink and drive... away an Opel Astra Twintop'.
I THANK Mr Peter Goh Kui Hoe for his feedback last Saturday on the roles and responsibilities of MRT security officers in 'MRT security too tough a job for some'.

ONLINE LETTERS

I AM leaving Singapore for my 15th and probably last time, as my husband's contract has been changed.
I DO not understand why companies and corporations are still spending so much on printing and distributing hard copies of Annual Reports.

AS THE law school interviews take place this weekend, interviewers at NUS and SMU Law might just suddenly find themselves inundated with more self-professed social activists and passionate pro bono proponents in one afternoon than they will meet in a lifetime.
I WAS happy when I heard that there was to be a Contender Asia and even more jubilant when I discovered that it was to be filmed in Singapore.
