PRINT EDITION LETTERS
AS A National University of Singapore (NUS) alumnus who receives regular invitations to donate to the National University of Singapore Endowment Fund, I was flabbergasted to learn from the media that NUS has a 15 per cent stake in Ankerite, the purchaser of Gillman Heights Condominium.
I REFER to the letter, 'Include non-citizens in fiance scheme' by Mr Ang Kin Leong (March 12).
THE recent spate of accidents involving lorries should be a cause for concern for the relevant authorities.

'Could not the effects of the items produced, in this instance regarding Mas Selamat, lead to the reverse effect of hero worship among some of our youth?'
I REFER to last Friday's report, 'SMRT appeals against $387k penalty' (March 21), in which the transport operator appealed to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to reduce its fine for an accident which caused delays in its service on Jan 21 this year.
DURING the long weekend, we went to the beach at Loyang with our neighbours. It was delightful to see more and more families camping out at the beach enjoying what little nature we have in Singapore.
I AM appalled that there is differential pricing for tickets to the Fifa World Cup soccer qualifying match between Singapore and Lebanon tonight.
I REFER to last Saturday's report, 'No Room at the Inn'.
SAFRA is frequently on a recruitment drive to attract more members, except reservists who have been transferred to civil defence.

ONLINE LETTERS
WE REFER to the online letter by Mr Jeffrey Lim Yin Cheong, '14 months to learn church's decision on donation refund' (March 10).
I REFER to last Wednesday's report, 'Swee Say tells bosses: You be pro-worker, we'll be pro business'. I couldn't agree more with Mr Lim Swee Say, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and the secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress when he outlined NTUC's bid to get more housewives, low-wage and older workers employed.
I READ Mr Lim Chin Hian's letter, 'A student's view' (March 19), and I agree that volunteer organisations are being exploited simply for the sole purpose of adding colour to one's curriculum vitae. However, I see no wrong in that no matter how hypocritical it may seem. This, unfortunately, is the way of the world now. The ones that genuinely sacrifice their weekends and whatever free time they possess are far and few.

I WRITE in response to Miss Varsha Krishnan's letter on Tuesday, 'Singaporeans more courteous now than before'. While I agree that Singaporeans are more courteous and more aware of their surroundings, I wish to point out that there could be more simple acts of courtesy by the general public.
WILL the management of Old Town Cafe please explain the rationale behind charging a 10 per cent service charge? Customers have to first fill in their orders on a piece of paper and then pass it to a waitress. They then have to proceed to the cashiers to make payment after their meal. It seems unreasonable to charge a 10 per cent service charge when customers do almost as much work as they do at more popular local coffee joints. This charge also appears excessive when compared with restaurants that charge a similar 10 per cent service charge but provide full service.
