PRINT EDITION LETTERS
I USED the Budget Terminal for the first time recently, and I came away less than impressed. The experience I had with airport staff also left a bitter after-taste.
I WISH to offer a further suggestion to address the problem of taxi safety in the Central Business District.
'While Singaporeans may be aware of the rule and eventually adjust to the changes, what has the Land Transport Authority done in tandem with the Singapore Tourism Board to ensure tourists are made aware of this rule?'
MR CHARLIE Ang Hwa Leong is to be commended for his bold concept of an offshore retirement city for retired Singaporeans in Monday's letter. The merits of the concept are far reaching and create benefits to citizens, Singapore and the country hosting the project. On top of that, it makes sound economic sense. A strong Singapre dollar and escalating inflationary pressures make such ideas hard to ignore.
I WOULD like to thank Madam Tan Gek Kim for her comments in her letter on Saturday.
MADAM Tan Gek Kim noted on Saturday that the Public Service Commission (PSC) representative who visited Cornell University did not meet non-scholars from Singapore ('Govt gestures mean a lot to S'poreans abroad') and suggested we should.
I CANNOT agree more with Foreign Minister George Yeo that to keep the peace, it is essential for the Government to act fairly in religious matters.
I REFER to Mr Selvakumar Prakasam's letter last Saturday, 'That Monday night joke on Channel U'.
I REFER to last Wednesday's report, 'Relook incentive system, MAS urges life insurers,' in which the Monetary Authority of Singapore called on life insurers to re-examine their incentives for agents, citing inadequate coverage people have bought.
ONLINE LETTERS
I READ with interest the media coverage of the centenary birthday celebration of David Marshall, Singapore's first chief minister. While the legal and diplomatic luminaries paid glowing tribute to this 'giant of a man' - I would like to share a common man's encounter with the late Dr Marshall.
I WOULD like to relate an ugly incident that occurred last Friday. I boarded the East-bound train at City Hall Station at around 7pm after work. It was crowded as expected, and getting on was a tight squeeze. The doors were about to shut when a Caucasian man charged in, colliding with the throng of commuters. He apologised.
IN THE retail banking space, Citibank Singapore has been revered to be the preferred choice when it comes to banking services. However, that leaves little to be said of their e-brokerage platform (trading US and Singapore shares).
I WAS walking towards the immigration counter at Changi Airport after my flight touched down from Bangkok about two weeks ago when I spotted a piece of unattended luggage on the walkway. My immediate action was to alert the airport staff, that is, the airport porters there.
I REFER to Mr David Buay Kwang Ming's online letter, 'Reckless bus driver at Sembawang Park' (March 13). SMRT places priority on the safety of our passengers. Our service leaders are trained on the importance of ensuring a safe journey for commuters at all times.
