PRINT EDITION LETTERS
WITH reference to Ms Susan Prior's letter on Monday ('En bloc sales eroding our 'sense of kampung'), I wish to point out that in a kampung, you can walk up to a neighbour's home and peer through the open door and windows to strike up a conversation.
I REFER to Monday's letter, 'En bloc sales eroding our 'sense of kampung'', in which Ms Susan Prior has stated that minority owners have to fight desperately to keep their homes. She has also said that in Singapore, your home is not really your home and can be taken from you by your neighbours.
'I could only answer her that there will be no winner.'

I REFER to the recent increase in petrol and diesel pump prices, the second rise in less than a month, and the eighth since July last year.
I REFER to the report, 'MPs seek steps to prevent 'magic dollars' flat scam' (March 11). It implies that HDB flat sellers involved in such illegal scams did so because the Housing Board did not grant a second HDB loan to downgrading cases. This is not so.
I APPLAUD the move by the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) to join the international effort to stop children from digging into junk food.
'Most restaurants and buffets offer only unhealthy, deep-fried and sugary foods such as chicken nuggets, fries, fish and chips and ice cream under their children's menus.'
'What I find puzzling is that the various ministries are less than coordinated in the effort to manage this problem.'
I REFER to Sunday's report, 'SDP holds illegal protest against rising consumer prices; 12 held', on the protest march held by Dr Chee Soon Juan and his supporters last Saturday.

ONLINE LETTERS
EARLY this month, I went to the StarHub Centre in Cuppage Road to renew my mobile phone contract. What was supposed to be a happy occasion turned out to be an experience that made me realise how customer service standards in Singapore are way below par. The salesperson who attended to me seemed pleasant at first sight. But my impression of her was shortlived. She showed little knowledge of the phone that I was interested in and was also unclear of the mobile plans available.
LAST Tuesday, I called Singapore Airlines' 24-hour reservation service at around 11pm. I received the usual recorded message telling me to hold on as 'all the lines are busy'. Incredible as it may sound, I held on for almost half an hour with the same message being repeated over and over till I got tired of holding on and hung up. I tried again after two to three minutes and the same scenario was repeated.
MY WIFE and I moved into our three-room flat in Bukit Batok on Aug 22 last year. We have always been frugal, and we thought our utilities bill reflected that. Our electricity bill started off at $72, and decreased slowly to about $30. We thought nothing of it, attributing our low bill to our investment in energy saving bulbs and minimal usage of air-conditioning. This being our first home, we did not know what amount of bill to expect too.

I WOULD like to highlight a problem that seems to be getting worse. I have often noticed cockroaches crawling about in SMRT buses. On one occasion, I saw a cockroach crawling onto a passenger's hair. The company should tackle this problem head-on. What if a tourist were to experience this on his visit here?
ON MARCH 1, I went to the Natas fair with my family to book a holiday package with CTC. Upon advice of the travel agent, we also took up a travel insurance plan (with AIG) there. I chose the 'individual superior' plan as it provides extra coverage that I require.
