THE headline, 'Some findings about escape won't be revealed' in Monday's Straits Times, is misleading. This, in fact, is in contrast to the ST Online version which bore the headline, 'Govt to make public details of how Mas Selamat escaped', posted on Sunday at 3.53pm, which correctly conveyed what Mr Wong Kan Seng said.
THE headlines and articles last Saturday, 'Polytechnic grads put squeeze on university places' and 'Varsity squeeze', grabbed attention, but were inaccurate and raised unnecessary alarm.
I AM perturbed after reading last Saturday's report, 'Varsity Squeeze'. There is nothing wrong in scoring straight As, outstanding CCAs and vying for that extra internship to spice up the curriculum vitae.

AS A teacher, I find it timely that the Saturday Special, 'Varsity Squeeze', was published soon after the release of the A-level results. Indeed, pressure to be an all-rounder will likely intensify. Young pragmatic Singaporeans will push themselves to take on leadership roles in a myriad of interests and hobbies.
I AGREE with Monday's report, 'Some HDB residents unhappy despite freeze on S&C charges', that Housing Board fees are too high when booking facilities, compared with private apartments.
WHAT is happening in Tibet now reminds us of what happened in Myanmar last year.
WE REFER to Mr Cyril Pereira's letter on Monday, 'NKF means well, but consider practicalities'.
'Scrap the three-quarter fuel tank rule.'
'Paint a bold red line along the roadside with words and signs stating, 'No taxi. No stopping. No waiting'.'

I AM writing about my experience at the NUS open house last Saturday. I was initially excited but the pleasant experience was dashed by the attitude of a lecturer/professor from the Life Science Department. I waited a while for a lecturer to be free as all were engaged in conversation with fellow prospective students, and when this lecturer was free, I proceeded to ask her a few questions.
SOMETIME about November last year, my eight-year-old daughter probably used my mobile phone to join a contest for a chance to win a PSP unit, when she saw it advertised over Kids Central. This initial call was to cost me $44, as reflected in my next SingTel bill under the category 'content download' from a third party called Glomobi.
I WAS at the Bali Thai restaurant in Novena Square last week and was shocked at what I saw. One of the staff used a straw to take a sip of the coconut juice that a diner had ordered before serving the fruit.

IT WAS raining when I was travelling on bus service number 69 towards Bedok bus interchange on March 2, but what I did not expect was the rain pelting into the bus. The same thing happened when I was on board bus service number 53. The bus driver had difficulty closing the rear doors.
I REFER to Thursday's article, 'Britons will soon have to pay for plastic bags'. The problem with plastic bags is that they are perceived to be free, whereas in reality they impose real costs to the environment, in terms of consumption of scarce petroleum resources, as well as their disposal. And because of this perception, there is no real incentive for individuals to curb their consumption.
I RECEIVED a hamper from a client just before Chinese New Year. The hamper was supplied by Eu Yang Sang and it comprised mainly Eu Yang Sang house brand products. I opened the hamper recently and, judging by the packaging on most of the products, they appear to be old stock. What was most disappointing was a badly dented can of abalone and a Magnetic Energy Cup. Both these dented items were carefully packed to conceal the dents. So much for customer service in Singapore.
