THE Straits Times special report on private schools on Monday painted a telling picture on the state of the private education industry in Singapore. A key question raised in the report was whether CaseTrust Accreditation ensures educational excellence.
WHEN the Education Act was introduced more than 50 years ago, there was no intention to differentiate between government and private schools. The Government did not have enough resources then to provide basic education for everyone, and both the private and public sector worked together to provide basic educational infrastructure.
ONE reason I chose to study for a Masters degree in Business Administration with MDIS, a private education centre, was that it was a CaseTrust-accredited school.
I REFER to the letter, 'Super Chingay but help ushers do their job well' by Mr Han Li (Feb 22).
I REFER to the letter, 'Why the distinction?' by Mr Tan Jia Lin (Feb 20) and wish to explain that the travel concession scheme is provided by the public transport operators and administered by TransitLink.
I THANK Mr Pavin Limanont for his letter yesterday, 'O say, can MediaCorp check, please...'.
Ten years ago, a seat could be had during off-peak hours. These days, there is standing room only at all times.
I REFER to Ms Michelle Lim Siew Fong's letter, 'No tour gift but ad says otherwise' (Feb 28).
I REFER to the letter, 'Sacrifice a few dollars and spare the space' by Ms Low Koon Moi (Feb 21). Whenever asset enhancements are undertaken at CapitaLand Retail malls, we are focused on creating a refreshing and vibrant tenancy mix, without sacrificing the shopping ambience.

MY BROTHER is a sub-normal person who studied in Chao Yang Special School when he was young.
I AM currently an exchange student in Sweden and, despite being thousands of miles away from home, I felt the same jubilation when Singapore won the hosting rights to the world's first-ever Youth Olympics.
I WAS baffled that Channelnewsasia.com reported that the Youth Olympics in Singapore would be scheduled from Aug 14-16, 2010. (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/330241/1/.html).
SOME Singaporeans say that the result of the Youth Olympic Games bid 'was expected'.
IT WAS a tough competition all the way for Singapore to win the bid to host the first Youth Olympics 2010.
THE International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded in 1894 on the initiative of a French nobleman.
I REFER to the article, '1,521 pedigree dogs dumped'.
WE REFER to Mr Sim Kwang Wah's letter, 'New Nokia phone life timer has already run for 19 minutes' (Online forum, Feb 16).
