PRINT EDITION LETTERS
I REFER to the Transport Ministry's plan to substantially increase the number of ERP gantries and up the charges. The Transport Minister also said that the solution to growing fat is not to upsize the trousers. However, my question is why have we allowed ourselves to grow fat in the first place?
THE ARF will be cut by 10 points from March and road tax decreased by 15 per cent in July. However, the ERP rate will be increased.
I QUESTION the rationale behind extending the ERP scheme to minor roads within HDB estates. I am referring to the gantries at Upper Boon Keng Road and Geylang Bahru.
I WOULD like to comment on the setting up of an electronic road pricing (ERP) gantry along Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Normanton Park, towards Jurong.
I HAVE a child who plans to apply to the local universities soon. I am told that only three A-level or 'H2' subjects will be taken into consideration and that the grades for S or 'H3' papers won't be considered.
IN THIS age of advanced technology we can still get TV burn-in, a shadowy image left permanently on the screen, depending on how long the image stays stationary on the screen.
I URGE the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA), various national sports association (NSA) officials and the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to stop their condescending attitude towards our sportsmen and sportswomen.
DID I hear wrongly, or did the new announcer on the MRT train actually say, 'Door are closing'? And did she call Braddell Station 'Bladel'?
THE prohibition against foreign members performing in the Complaints Choir just does not square with the current debate on renaissance and graciousness.
ONLINE LETTERS
RECENTLY I met up with a small group of friends and was shocked to hear that some of them are recently divorced.
I WOULD like to air my response to the article, 'Donate or lose your place in the S'pore national team' (ST, Jan 30).
I REFER to the story, 'National sailor bags five As' (ST, Jan 25).
WE REFER to the letter, '30-stock Straits Times Index: Poser for SGX' by Mr Liew Sing Hun (Online forum, Jan 28).
AS A Singaporean and frequent MRT commuter, and on behalf of the many people I know who feel the same, I would like to urge SMRT to review the new announcements of station names that are used in the trains, as well as the announcements on free bus services at certain stations, etc.
I AM a 62-year-old female senior citizen. I dress neatly and tidily, and look years below my age.
I HAVE been a regular commuter on our MRT trains since the day of its inception in Singapore. And I have had the chance to travel on similar such trains when I was abroad.
MY DAUGHTER is a Primary 4 student from Peiying Primary School which is located near Khatib MRT.
THERE has been an attempt in the online forum by Mr Syu Ying Kwok to fudge the legacy of Suharto by portraying him as a benevolent ruler, 'Why Singaporeans should be thankful over Suharto's economic policies' (Online forum, Jan 30).
