PRINT EDITION LETTERS
WITH reference to the changes announced by Minister for Transport Raymond Lim, I welcome the ministry's efforts to bring about a smoother transport system for all.
BEFORE the public-transport big bang has even had a chance to institute much belated shock therapy to the two stodgy incumbent transport operators, why is the Ministry of Transport (MOT) putting up more gantries all over the island?
I REFER to the letters by Mr Aaron Thng and Ms Tan San San (ST, Jan 29) regarding train service frequency.
WE THANK Mr Hong Geok Hua for his letter, 'Make some medical-fee waivers permanent' (ST, Jan 25). We are very touched that Mr Hong and his wife are helping to take care of someone needing care who is not even a relative. We are all the more very grateful to him for raising Ms Ivy Tham's plight.
I WORK with a voluntary welfare organisation that provides sheltered employment to the intellectually challenged and disabled. Many of these trainees travel on public transport to work, earning less than $160 monthly for their work at the sheltered workshops.
I REFER to the report, 'Complaints choir goes online instead' (ST, Jan 29).
IN THE letter, 'Do petrol stations have to open 24 hours?' (ST, Jan 30), Mr James Wong Joo Sin suggested that as part of our efforts to conserve energy, the opening hours of petrol stations should be regulated by the Government.
AS A neutral observer of the Odex debacle, I wonder whether there is any legal recourse for people who have settled with Odex, considering that it was not the rightful party to petition for the names of those who allegedly downloaded Japanese animated cartoons illegally.
ONLINE LETTERS
MAY I ask the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) and leaders of the local sporting fraternity who censored Tao Li what their anger is predicated on relative to her displeasure about the 15 per cent cut from her cash awards.
I STAND on the side of swimmer Tao Li, 'Tao Li taken to task over comments' (ST, Jan 29).
INSTEAD of slamming swimmer Tao Li for expressing her displeasure at having to give up 15 per cent of her cash award, we should examine her grounds for bringing up the issue of sportspersons giving up part of their earnings.
I WAS surprised to receive a Diners Club International Ace credit card out of the blue in the post with instructions to activate the card seven days upon receipt.
I REFER to the letters in the forum pages concerning the frequency of MRT trains and I agree with the comments made by the writers.
A FEW days ago, I received a letter from StarHub Cable TV, informing my family that one particular channel will cease transmission with effect from end-February.
ON WEDNESDAY morning, four Barclays Premier League matches were played but none was telecast on StarHub's sports channels.
WE REFER to Mr Chong Hong Jie's letter, 'Nokia phone faulty on the day of purchase' (Online forum, Jan 23).
I REFER to Mr Chong Hong Jie's letter, 'Nokia phone faulty on the day of purchase' (Online forum, Jan 23).
