IN PARLIAMENT on Jan 21, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan cited the 2percentage point increase in the goods and services tax (GST) as one of the reasons for rising medical bills ('Health-care costs jumped 6.2% last year'; ST Jan 22).
I WONDER how many Singaporeans are aware they cannot use their CPF savings to pay their housing loan fully.
RECENTLY, more ERP gantries were built, some in the heartland.

THE latest changes to the Workplace Safety and Health Act to increase the scope of coverage and ease of claiming compensation are timely and mostly commendable.
FROM the initial announcement of the increase in its ticket booking fees from Jan 15 to the reply by Mr Kenneth Tan, deputy CEO of Sistic.com, Mr Tan cited the investment in its ticketing system as a key reason for the fee revision ('Why that hike in booking fee for tickets over $20'; ST, Jan 22).
I REFER to the letter, 'Horror scenes on Orchard Road' by Ms Sharon Morris (ST, Jan 23).
ONLINE LETTERS
I WOULD like to raise some issues regarding public transport, on which the minister has spelt out several key changes.
I REFER to the graphic, 'Long and winding routes' (ST, Jan 19), which shows the route Ms Jeanne Conceicao takes daily to commute from her Ang Mo Kio home to her former workplace at the Institute of Policy Studies in Pasir Panjang.
IT IS wonderful to see the Government take the lead in revamping Singapore's public transport system and creating a more user-friendly, economical and comfortable one.
I READ with interest several articles published in The Straits Times recently on the current financial situation facing world economies.
I AM greatly disappointed with the Stock Exchange of Singapore in the way it handled the minimum services available to the investing public.
THE current debate on refining public assistance to the poor, as reported by Ms Lee Siew Hua in 'Saving the children from a permanent poverty trap' (ST, Jan 23), reflects the courage and compassion of society and its leaders to address an issue often overlooked.
I BOARDED a Singapore Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur (SQ108) on Jan 19.
TRYING to squeeze into a fully packed morning peak-hour train could be the biggest challenge one can face every day.
OCBC surely has a high-handed way of dealing with its customers and this makes me wonder if I should continue to be its customer after 30 years of putting my money with the bank.
