IT PLEASED me to note that the Ministry of Transport is planning to put the focus on people in the revamp of the public-transportation system.
WOULD the authorities consider allowing smaller bus operators, who can accept only cash payments, to fill in the gaps during peak hours?

I AM encouraged to see that Singapore is embarking on a long-overdue upgrade of sports facilities, which lag behind those of many developing nations and cities around the world.

FOR the past two months, 'shock and awe' swept through the entire global financial market by our small country's two Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF).
I WAS really worried upon reading the report, 'Seoul schools ban soft drinks' (ST, Jan 22).
WE ARE fast approaching the festive season again with Chinese New Year just around the corner and Valentine's Day fast approaching. A time for reunions and gatherings to spend with loved ones, families and friends.

MISS Ng Gek Noi, in her letter, 'Anonymity trend makes great service a rare find' (ST, Jan 22), made the statement that the two people she encountered - Mellisa and Jeffery - in the context of her dialectic, were ashamed of their surnames.
I HAVE been away for one year and I am deeply appalled and saddened by how much the behaviour of Singaporeans has deteriorated.
I FELT very happy and excited after reading the report, 'Youth Olympic host: It's Singapore vs Moscow in final showdown' (ST, Jan 21).
WHY do there seem to be two standards - one for maids and another for parents?
I WOULD like to respond to the comments by Ms Kuek Chor Ling from SMRT, 'Commuters are urged to be gracious' (ST, Jan 21), her reply to the letters, 'Make public aware of train seats for elderly' by Ms Delphine Chin Mei Foong (ST, Jan 3) and 'Priority seats on trains: They work in Taiwan' by Ms Linda Cheng (ST, Jan 10).
I REFER to the letter, 'SingTel in no hurry to fix mio problems' by Mr Chee Kim Tian (Online Forum, Jan 15).
