IN THE article, 'Mother tongue gives S'poreans an edge: MM Lee' (The Sunday Times, July 15), Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said, in reference to the learning of the mother tongue, 'They don't have to score an A or A star, even a B or C, but they have a sense of the language.'

THE Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) would like to thank Mr Yong Kew Lim ('Action lacking on unattended luggage'; ST, July 10) for his vigilance in reporting the unattended bag at Terminal 1 Arrival Hall.
WE EXTEND our sincere condolences to Mr Norhafiz Zahid and his family on the loss of his father ('No help for dying dad at Woodlands checkpoint'; ST, July 16).
I REFER to the recent letters on the requirement by hospitals to pay a deposit before they would accept patients for treatment, despite their having medical insurance.

I WAS asked by my friend, Ang Sar Nah, to produce her posthumous letter on her sad demise, which happened rather uneventfully on Sunday.

I WAS appalled when I read the article, 'These workers make HDB bin centres their homes' (ST, July 16).
WITH reference to the article 'Footprints for posterity - Four reasons to write your autobiography' (ST, July 11), the skills of writing of an autobiography can be made simple and enjoyable for seniors of all backgrounds.
MANY budget airlines have sprouted recently, offering no-frill service at a much lower cost than service-oriented airlines.
I WAS happy to see that Dr Andy Ho stood up for older women in his article, 'When Ladies' night isn't for all ladies' (ST, July 11).
