PRINT EDITION LETTERS
I CANNOT accept the suggestion by Ms Tan Saw Bin ('Banks can help minimise charity fraud'; ST, June 26) that banks offer an additional service, for a fee, to monitor 'unusually large payments to third parties'.
I REFER to the commentary, 'Engineering 'boring'? Get the young excited' (ST, June 16), as well as the letter written by Mr Paul Chan Poh Hoi, 'Offer better pay to draw more to engineering' (ST, June 25).
IN THE face of increasing assaults on bus drivers, police have said that such attacks will not be tolerated.
RECENTLY I received a direct mailer from UOB Bank telling me how I could optimise my credit card and 'stretch (my) purchasing power' through a balance transfer and interest-free loan.
I REFER to the replies by the Land Transport Authority ('Market forces determine taxi fares') and the Ministry of Education ('MOE committed to five-day work week'; ST, June 28).
THE taxi situation in Singapore has reached another low point.
ONLINE LETTERS
I HAVE lost count of the number of letters about taxi woes published in your paper. Invariably, the passengers, cabbies and taxi operators point out that others are at fault when things turn sour.
I BOUGHT an Apple Ipod online for $378, inclusive of 5 per cent GST, from the Apple Singapore website recently.
ON JUNE 17, my husband and I decided to go cycling. We bought an Aleoca bicycle rack a few months back and had used it twice already.
I WAS very glad that Channel 5's 'News 5 Tonight" started having English subtitles for an English programme.
THE sudden demise and passing of a young, motivated and talented sportsman is very saddening. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Thaddeus Cheong.
I AGREE with the point raised by Mr Lee Kai Yin, 'Have medical staff and defibrillator on hand" (ST, June 27), that a defibrillator and other medical devices should be deployed during a demand sport event such as a triathlon selection race.
I AM glad that the owners of F&B establishments are set to improve dining conditions in Singapore. However, this improvement should soon extend to coffee shops, which serve the majority of the population.
THERE have been many articles and letters on taxi service in Singapore. Allow me, a part-time taxi driver, to give my view.
I READ Mr Jeffrey Law Lee Beng's letter, 'If heartland tour is to attract tourists, it must be more creative and appealing" (Online forum, June 21), and the other comments online about Singapore's tourist landscape.
