PRINT EDITION LETTERS
THE death of a healthy, young aspiring triathlete recently is truly sad. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among athletes worldwide. It is a well-documented phenomenon, not a medical mystery.
WITH regard to the recent deaths of athletes while engaging in sports, I would like to highlight a few points to reconcile the apparent contradiction that while habitual exercise confers health benefits, it could also precipitate sudden death.
IN THE letter, 'Will viral fever spread from India to S'pore?' (ST, June 20), Mr Retnam Thillainathan was concerned that chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral fever, could be imported into Singapore.
I REFER to the letter by Mr Lim In Chong, 'Plane seats available despite what website says' (ST, June 21).
THERE has been disturbing talk in the media recently that the restrictions on foreigners buying landed homes in Singapore could be relaxed.
IN THE letter, 'Drop peak-period levy, raise starting fare to $4' (ST, June 22), Mr Raymund Koh Joo Guan offered several suggestions to improve taxi availability. In particular, he suggested fine-tuning fares to smoothen demand for taxis across peak and off-peak periods and to encourage the movement of taxis between the central and outlying areas.
I HAVE made many trips to Hong Kong and the United States on an American carrier with my laptop as a carry-on item. The security staff at Changi Airport always insisted that I switch on my laptop in their presence, unlike at airports in Hong Kong and the US which only require laptops to be X-rayed separately.
I REFER to Mr Nah Yong Hwee's letter, 'Five-day work week? Not for his teacher wife' (ST, June 23).
ONLINE LETTERS
IT TOOK eight years to happen, but eventually it did.
I AM writing to remind would-be travellers on British Airways, from London especially, to be mentally prepared or take extra precaution of the risk they may face on losing their luggage.
THE recent report and recommendation by an American bank that the restrictions on foreigners to purchase landed property be lifted is something which I feel the majority of Singaporeans would be up against.
IT IS timely that our Government should rescind the strict ruling on foreigners buying landed properties in Singapore. It was imposed decades ago due to abuses and loose regulations then that affected citizens.
DATE and time of incident: June 12 at about 6pm
I REFER to your article, 'Nets' fee hike not an abuse of monopoly position: Watchdog' (ST, June 26).
I WOULD like to congratulate SBS Transit for the successful launch of the fun-filled 'Buzz My Day' event on SBS Transit Thank You Commuters Day on June 23, which was co-organised with SPH.
I REFER to the letter about the torturing and killing of a bull in a Spanish bullfight.
I WAS waiting to go into the fitting room at Zara Marina Square on June 22 during lunchtime.
