THE report, 'Wage subsidy will not make poor work less, says US expert' (ST, June 23), highlights Professor Lawrence Mead's claim in his lecture at the Civil Service College that what explains the sharp increase in US employment from the mid-1990s was 'society's expectations of the poor, expressed through policies that make employment a condition of receiving aid'.

RECENTLY I attended the AGM of the condominium where I live and was appalled by the proceedings.
RECENTLY I travelled out of the country and had to abide by the new security restrictions implemented at Changi Airport which limited the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels that passengers can carry in their hand luggage.
