PRINT EDITION LETTERS
WEDNESDAY'S report, '30,000 sign up for CPF Life', while encouraging, also begs the question of whether many more members would have enrolled in the annuity scheme if there were greater comfort about the sustainability and stability of payouts.

Stiffen laws to protect victims
THURSDAY'S report, 'Dog attacks on the rise - 65 this year', is a timely reminder to dog owners of their responsibility in caring for their pets. Dog attacks usually arise when the owner is negligent or has failed to take reasonable precautions to ensure that his pet does not cause harm to neighbours or members of the public.
Medisave allowed for dental surgery at private clinics: MOH
In Wednesday's letter, 'Allow Medisave for private clinics', Dr Ng Yong Kheng suggested the use of Medisave at private dental clinics to reduce the waiting times for 'people who are suffering from toothache and gum infection'.
How does MOE define teaching passion?
THOSE applying to be teachers are reminded that they should not aim to be one just because times are bad, and that passion is a key factor used by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in picking the right candidate.
P1 registration: Guarantee places to those living nearby
I WISH to highlight the perennial problem of parents failing to enrol their children in schools close to their homes during the Primary 1 registration exercise.
Arrangements in place for medical tourists, says ICA
WE REFER to Mr Chiam Teong Tee's letter, 'ICA, be more responsive to medical tourists' (Nov 10).

1 MR JACK CHEW: Tougher rules for dog owners work only with sufficient policing
Tackle the owners, not the animals
WHILE the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) should be praised for acting firmly against irresponsible dog owners, the action is usually taken only after the damage has been done.
Allow Medisave use for preventive care, says dental body
WE REFER to Dr Ng Yong Kheng's letter on Wednesday, 'Allow Medisave for private clinics'.
Youth interest in graciousness is gratifying
I WAS gratified to read the genuine concern expressed by our young about graciousness in Singapore, arising from five letters on Monday ('Little to show for 12 years of kindness drive'). Allow me to offer my views to each letter writer:
School transfers
'The MOE should implement a more transparent process.'
Block eligible for other upgrading schemes
WE THANK Ms Pamela Hoo for last Saturday's letter, 'Left out of Sers'. The Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (Sers) is implemented only for old HDB precincts that can be redeveloped to optimise land use. Blocks 110, 111, 113 and 114 Bukit Merah View were identified for Sers based on this principle.

ONLINE LETTERS
THE proposed stiffer rules for dog ownership, as reported in "Dog attacks on the rise - 65 this year" on Thursday, are long overdue.
Owners should learn to care for their pets properly
THURSDAY'S article, "Dog attacks on the rise - 65 this year", raises alarm.
Look at the lighter side of our ad...
WE REFER to Mr Daniel Chan's Forum Online letter, "'Special dining' TV commercial in bad taste" on Monday.
Pram problem: Not easy for mums on buses
I REFER to SBS Transit's reply, "Carrying prams? Bus captains will help" (Nov 13), to Mr Ong Chee Seng's letter, "Baby-unfriendly poles on SBS buses" (Nov 9).
Well done, Lions
WELL done, coach Raddy Avramovic and the Singapore national football team for their winning performance against Thailand in the Asian Cup qualifying group match on Wednesday.
Job seeker dismayed by recruitment tactic
ON NOV 6, I responded to a job posting on Monster.com, which stated that an established company was looking for sales and marketing executives.
Individuals play vital role in energy conservation for businesses
WE THANK Mr Ong Lip Hua for highlighting the importance of energy conservation in his Forum Online letter, "Businesses here turn blind eye to energy conservation" (Nov 6).
Revive weekly EPL highlights show on free-to-air TV
NOW that SingTel has turned down StarHub's offer to carry its pay-TV content, can we revive the weekly one-hour programme on English Premier League (EPL) match highlights on free-to-air TV?
Support plan for the disabled: It's the caregiving 'software' that counts
I REFER to the editorial, "Support plan for the disabled has appeal" (Nov 9). As the mother of a young adult with learning disabilities, I find the plan not only appealing but also reassuring. I know many parents and social workers have made representations to the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) for exactly such a trust service for their disabled family members.
