PRINT EDITION LETTERS
EMPLOYERS like me worry when we read reports of employers being saddled with their maids' huge medical bills. The Ministry of Manpower seems to have overlooked the rights and interests of employers.
I REFER to the letter, 'Maid entry test should not be only in English', by Mrs Nadarajah Maheswari on Monday.
I AM looking for a maid to look after my baby as I will be returning to work when my maternity leave ends soon. My husband and I are apprehensive as we have not hired a live-in maid before.
I HIRED a maid for my ailing father who, doctors told me, required constant care. My father is conversant only in Mandarin, so we found one who could speak the language and came highly recommended.
I REFER to the letter, 'It's Singapore, serve us in English first, please', by Miss Ellouisa Chen (May 3). I am shocked that she thinks that just because this is Singapore, she should be greeted in English by sales assistants in a boutique.
I HAVE finally had enough of bad experiences with service by foreign workers from China.
I WRITE to clarify some points made in last Tuesday's article, 'Feel-good 'green' policies misguided', regarding the European local-food campaign.
'Sales staff in France and Germany do not all converse with their foreign customers in English as well, but in French or German.'
ONLINE LETTERS
AFTER the recent turn of events, it is extremely ironic that the Myanmar junta that should have been the cure is ironically a greater crisis compared to Cyclone Nargis.
IN THE wake of China's earthquake, there may be Singaporeans trapped in China waiting for a flight to get out or Singaporeans who have booked tours to visit the country but now have to cancel them. Little inconveniences were inevitable.
I AM once again writing about Channel 5's incomprehensible decision to delay the telecast of the Survivor finale until Friday night, when the finale was telecast on Sunday night in the US (effectively Monday, Singapore time).
IN RECENT weeks, there were some major news reports on genetically modified (GM) foods.
RECENTLY, I was having dinner at Lau Pa Sat with a friend when an accident happened. A woman in her late 40s, who was holding a tray full of hot drinks and other beverages, bumped into one of the satay store owners who was busy arranging seats.
