Case is as neutral as it can be
I REFER to the online letter, 'Case should be more neutral' (June 21) by Dr Lim Boon Hee. Our price surveys publish the prices gathered from the market so as to allow consumers to make informed choices. We keep the methodology simple and compare prices displayed at the shelves.

The media reported that three supermarkets - Giant, NTUC FairPrice and Shop N Save - have confirmed that they apply uniform pricing policies. Such transparency would not have been possible had there been competition triggered by independent price surveys.

Dr Lim wrote that there is a bias assumption by Case that FairPrice invariably takes the lead in lowering prices. We make no such assumption. We remain neutral and publish the survey findings as gathered.

For example, we stated in our June 19 press statement that Sheng Siong had lowered their prices of most categories of rice and this was reported by the media. FairPrice reportedly followed suit and lowered the prices of its rice, after we announced this finding.
