A magnificent effort on Pedra Branca
PRIOR to the announcement of the ruling on Pedra Branca by the International Court of Justice, I was told by my friends from Malaysia, Singapore and Britain that Singapore will win the Pedra Branca legal tussle.

I asked them what made them feel so?

They said that Singapore has a very pragmatic government which would have done its homework thoroughly without leaving any stone unturned or, for that matter, loopholes unplugged.

Of course, as always, I felt very proud to be a Singaporean.

We should be grateful to the magnificent effort of our former Minister for Law and Deputy Prime Minister Prof Jayakumar, Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong and Prof Tommy Koh and all who worked to ensure that we had a water-tight case over the sovereignty of this island.

It was a win-win situation as emphasised by Malaysia as they were given sovereignty over the middle rocks.

Grateful thanks to the good people of integrity and honesty who work as our leaders to ensure success in all endeavours in an increasingly turbulent world. Let us not forget gratitude to all who think and work for our betterment.
