WHILE there are many rogue taxi drivers, there are also many good and kind cabbies.
Instead of plying the roads for passengers, rogue taxi drivers prey on innocent tourists, forgetting that sometimes tourists are well aware of these tactics before arriving here. Some know they are being taken for a ride but do not make a fuss for fear of their safety.
Instead of just a stern warning, more drastic measures must be taken to deal with this problem. The Singapore Tourist Promotion Board should also make it easier for tourists to report recalcitrant cabbies by making available and publicising a hotline for complaints.
It is sad that no taxi company can give 100 per cent assurance that their drivers are honest and provide top-notch services.
