I BELIEVE by now most of us know that more than 100,000 Myanmar people, mostly villagers, have perished, their bodies rotting amid the fields and ditches because of the cyclone.
A million more have been made homeless and are desperate to survive because of shortages of food and water. There is now widespread illness with children dying of diarrhoea and malaria.
As we count our blessings living in Singapore with no natural disaster, spare a thought for those who have survived. Our gesture may help to relieve the pain of the survivors whose families may have been wiped out or seriously hurt.
Our non-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely, Singapore Red Cross, Mercy Relief and World Vision, have asked for donations.
It is right and good to help the Mynamar people in their most desperate and trying time.
Of all the ways NGOs have listed to make a donation, I find the fastest and most joyful way is to use one's cellphone and dial 1900-1121010 to make a $10 donation or 1900-1121050 for a $50 one.
It took me less than 30 seconds to make a donation.
We are a global family. We are connected to one another in a cosmic way. The Myanmar people are our brothers and sisters.
