I REFER to Mr Dennis Gordon de Souza's letter on Monday, 'Keep left on the longest travellator". If one has taken the MRT at stations such as Orchard, City Hall and Raffles Place, one would have noticed that there are signs at escalators advising commuters to keep left to allowing hurrying commuters to move quickly on the right.
One would also have noticed that these signs have not been observed. Markings on the platforms of these MRT stations as well as others indicate that commuters waiting to board the train should stand at the side of these markings, leaving the passage between these markings for out coming/going passengers. These have also lost their intentions.
It is an everyday scenario that commuters pack the areas around the train door. They do not move into the middle area of the train compartment even though there is space for them to do so. Another daily occurrence - boarding commuters do not wait for alighting passenger to come out first, they barge in.
What we need is a fresh education campaign to get commuters to heed these signs.
