As unS'porean as...the Budget Terminal
I WAS shocked when I went to the Budget Terminal to fetch my friend from the Philippines some time ago and can share the sentiments expressed by Mr Tan Teck Wei, 'Basic service standards missing at Budget hub' (March 21). When I stepped into the arrival hall, I thought I was in an airport in a remote part of Asia.

My friend, who used to travel on Singapore Airlines, was used to the classy reception of our main terminals. This time around, she took advantage of some offers on Cebu Pacific so that she could give her nieces a trip and treat to Singapore. When she arrived, she thought she had landed somewhere in the Philippines and was worried that her nieces would be disappointed that she had brought them to an undeveloped place. She was rather apologetic to her nieces and kept reassuring them that the Singapore airport that she sang praises about wasn't this Budget Terminal.

Sometime later, my son decided to take Tiger Airways and thought he was going through the reception zone of a hospital when he entered the departure lounge. The difference is that most of our hospitals have cosier settings. We may have a Budget Terminal. But must it be so ignominiously different from the regular terminals?
