Opening up of pay-TV market does not guarantee quality
I READ with interest SingTel's successful capture of official rights to screen Uefa soccer matches. I doubt that customers will benefit.

StarHub fared miserably in the screening of the English Premier League with numerous interruptions and constant signal breaks. They have also not been very transparent in their decision not to show some mid-week games without informing customers. The end-effect is that subscribers are paying a higher price for poorer coverage.

Since Mio TV was launched, it has attracted far too many negative reviews in the forum about the lack of customer service, etc. I am still not convinced that Mio TV would be an alternative to StarHub. In essence, I doubt the opening up of the pay-TV market has benefited customers. It is also strange that one has to use or own two different sets of equipment in order to watch the games. Only time can tell if Mio TV will indeed be priced more reasonably than StarHub and whether coverage will be better.
