More acts of courtesy, please
I WRITE in response to Miss Varsha Krishnan's letter on Tuesday, 'Singaporeans more courteous now than before'While I agree that Singaporeans are more courteous and more aware of their surroundings, I wish to point out that there could be more simple acts of courtesy by the general public.

For example, I have seen people running frantically for buses which had halted at bus stops, but nobody at the bus stops seems to care. I can understand that if it was a peak period and the buses need to transit fast but, at other times, a person at the bus stop can tell the driver to hold on for a few seconds, especially if the person running for the bus is not far away.

Another classic example is when passengers do not move to the rear of the bus. I just cannot understand it. Moving a few steps in will allow another three or four persons to board, but sometimes people do not seem to care. Fortunately, I think, it is only a minority of the population that has a couldn't-care-less attitude. For everyone else, keep it up! Courtesy is contagious.
